Another year of photos…Already

Unbelievable. 2011 came and went so fast I think I actually heard a ‘whoosh!’ as it flew by. It seems like just last month I was writing the last blog of the year for 2010. I was saying much of the same last time, about how fast a year goes by. And it seems each year passes faster than the last.

This was our best year yet. We had some amazing shoots, exciting new changes, and met some great people along the way. Many people make resolutions with the coming of a new year. I’m not going to say this is a resolution, but I’m going to set a goal to write at least one blog post per week, if not more. There are a lot of shoots to catch up on that I haven’t posted yet. So that, along with newer stuff being churned out should keep me busy for some time. I just hope you guys enjoy reading and looking.

I’ve been threatening to have a ‘camera basics’ class to teach people how to use their camera efficiently and get good looking shots at home with the camera you already have. Hopefully I’ll be able to put something together in the next couple of months.

I have to say thanks to my good friend and colleague Janet from Rainy Day Photos, as we’ve shot together quite a bit this year. As I’ve mentioned before, I often work with other photographers in and around the Houston area, but I work with Janet more than any other colleague in the area. We actually had an epic engagement shoot in Kemah last week that was just spectacular. Perhaps I’ll be able to share a few shots from that in a future post.

I have high hopes for 2012. May this year be even better than last year! In the meantime, here’s some highlights of the fastest moving year in history!

My dog buster and a staff portrait shoot for a Houston Hair Salon…

My first Indian Wedding with Janet- it was so awesome…

And we can’t forget the trip to Mexico last spring. It was so much fun!

This was a shot from an impromptu shoot of a good friend of mine on board the Carnival Cruise Ship ‘Ecstasy’…

I liked the look of this. It was in Margaritaville on the Mexican Island of Cozumel.

Houston Senior Portraits – Ashley

A little over a year ago I shot a beautiful wedding at Coles Country in Cypress, TX. (You can see the two-part blog post here: Part1, Part 2)

Well the sister of the Bride from that wedding is graduating from The University of Houston in just a few weeks. I got to shoot some portraits for her, here at the SSP Studio. Thanks for the referral, Jen!

I’ve done many sessions here, but this is the first time that my dog, Buster, felt like totally photo-bombing a few shots (you’ll see some below). After some gentle coaxing and promise of treats he cleared the shot and we were able to continue. He’s a really nice pup though, and makes for a decent photo prop if I might say so myself.

Here’s a handful of shots from Ashley’s U of H Senior Photo session. I hope you enjoy.

Also: Last month’s contest Tie-Breaker results can be found at the bottom of the post.

Here comes Buster!

Ashley I hope you and your sis enjoyed the photo shoot. Buster and I certainly did ๐Ÿ™‚

If you are thinking of getting your Senior Portraits done, whether you’re graduating from College or High School, feel free to contact me and we’ll set up an appointment.

And Now, This Just In: The Tie-Breaker Results!

After several diligent counts and recounts, I came out with a Tie-Breaker score of 50 to 30!

Tara Matthiews YOU ARE THE WINNER!

You and Rafe get a free Professional 1-Hour Mini-Photo session courtesy of Samuel Seth Photography, along with One 8×10 Print, and Two 5×7 Prints of your favorite images from the session!

Tara has already expressed a desire to have a session done soon, as she recently learned the great news that she’s EXPECTING! Yep, that’s right guys and gals… So let’s all offer Tara and Rafe a big CONGRATULATIONS not only for the package one the way from that big white Stork, but also for winning the Tie-Breaker of last month’s contest!

But wait, there’s more!

Well after all the hard work that Amanda also surely put in, I’d hate to see her go away empty-handed. So I’m going to offer her a special rate on a photo session, if she would like one. Mandy, please contact me for details ๐Ÿ™‚

I really appreciate you two girls working so hard bringing in so many fans to my new Facebook Business page. On my old page, I had 600+ “Likes”, and it’s hard getting them all back. So believe me when I say, I appreciate it.

We’ve got some great stuff coming up, including an Indian Wedding that I got to Second Shoot with my good friend and colleague Janet from Rainy Day Photos. So stay tuned, and if you haven’t subscribed, please do so. You can also follow me on Twitter and Facebook by clicking the links up top.

See ya soon!

And The 2011 Winner is…

If you remember, last month I had a contest here. It was to get more “Likes” on my Facebook page.

Well it seems like just yesterday I was announcing it, and already the whole month just flew by! So without further delay, the Grand Prize Winner is:

Mrs. Mel Hererra!

For those who keep up with my blog, Mel actually happened to win second place in last year’s contest. This year she made sure to come out swinging and worked really hard to win first place, and it paid off. BIG. Her and her family will receive a complementary Two-Hour photo session ANYWHERE within 25-miles of the SSP Studio, as well as 25 custom designed greeting cards AND One 11โ€ณx14โ€ณ Fine Art Stretched Canvas Print that comes ready-to-hang. This whole package is worth over $400. Pretty sweet deal for just getting people to like my Facebook page, wouldn’t you say?

The session does have to be redeemed in the month of December 2011 or January 2012, so don’t hesitate to set up an appointment, Mel! I can’t wait to shoot the family again, they’ve all grown quite a bit in the past year, and it will be awesome for you to have progressive photos of them growing.

Second Place

That brings us to second place. And it puts me in quite a curious position. Second place was actually a TIE! So I’m thinking what I’ll do is have a one-week Tie-Breaker between the two contestants: Tara Matthiews (who’s wedding I shot just last month and also who just announced some big news of her own!) and Mandy Garza!

These two tied so we’re going to have them two do a mini-contest and see which one comes out on top ๐Ÿ™‚

You two girls have ONE WEEK to bring in more “Likes” than the other person! Starting now, and ending Friday, December 9th at 12:00 Midnight. You have 7 days, so let the game begin!

In Other News…

I also just got in some great prints from a recent session I did, and some prints from the Hererra Family, who’s session I did last year. (They recently ordered some more prints). I thought they looked really great and just wanted to share.

Houston Portrait Prints

Don’t forget, it’s not too late to get in a quick session before the end of the year. Prints and products get here quick, so it’s perfect if you’ve been putting it off!

Backyard Wedding – Tara and Rafe – Part 2: Olde City Pub

If you haven’t checked out part one of this two-part post, I urge you to do so HERE.
Now that you’ve done that, you’re up to speed on the story of this couple.

The reception was held at a local Pub, called Olde City Pub. Tara and Rafe spent many nights here as a couple, playing pool, darts and their favorite arcade game- Silver String Bowling. It’s a nice place with lots of room for events and receptions, and the atmosphere is really cool, with chairs and sofas spread around, and even a mini-library with real books. And as was mentioned there’s always plenty to do with with a shuffleboard table, billiard tables, dart boards and more.

Friends and family joined them here at the pub to celebrate their new marriage. I really liked the details from this wedding. From the sign-in sheets, to the guest-notes (which doubled as crossword-puzzles) to the clothesline of letters, and even the centerpieces, they were all DIY projects put together by the loving hands of family and friends. The whole setup looked really slick. And the cakes. OMG the cakes. Rafe and Tara’s mothers (and I think a few friends of theirs) made like 96 cupcakes and like 5 or 6 large cakes in a wide variety. They looked so pro too. There was no shortage of noms this night, that’s for sure. They even sent me home a box of goodies. Thanks girls!

I hope you enjoy Tara and Rafe – Part 2.

Even Rafe likes to Hokey Pokey now and again…

Although this was a smaller wedding than I’m use to, I still had tons of fun and thoroughly enjoyed myself the whole day. Tara and Rafe, congratulations again, guys. I hope you enjoy the shots we got together and cherish them for many years to come.
