Houston Indian Wedding – R&S – Part 1

In previous post, I mentioned that I had the grand opportunity to second-shoot an Indian Wedding here in Houston. This was the first time I’d been able to document an Indian wedding, and I think it might have been the most fun I had at a wedding all year. This wasn’t a full-on traditional Hindu wedding which sometimes lasts 4-days. But it was like a 4-day affair with all the vibrant color and festivities you can expect in a 4-day wedding, all packed into one awesome-huge-epic-event-day.

I have so many shots that I just love from this wedding, It’s really difficult to pick just a few to blog. So while I did narrow it down quite a bit, I still ended up with a lot I want to post. Therefore, I am splitting this up into two posts. This is part 1: Pre-Ceremony and Ceremony. Part 2 will consist of everything after that.

I do have to say thanks to the wonderful Janet of Rainy Day Photos for having me along for this wedding. We work together quite a bit, so I don’t mind plugging a fellow photog on my site. For those who aren’t familiar with what a second-shooter does, perhaps I’ll explain it in a future blog post.

For now, enjoy the pics, and feel free to leave a comment.

This was during the Saptapadi (a ritual where the Bride and Groom complete seven circuits around the Holy Fire) and the Bride’s Brother blocked the way for the groom to continue until the groom ‘convinces’ him to move, in this case with a gift enclosed in an envelope…

After the ceremony the newly married couple sit on the stage and almost every person in attendance comes up to congratulate them and give them a gift. Lots of nice jewelry and other generous items were given to the new couple.
